Changes in the new edition include an entirely revamped introductory chapter, and significant reorganizations elsewhere in the casebook, notably including the chapter on marriage, updated in light of Obergefell v. Hodges, the chapter on parenting, which reintroduces significant materials and discussion on child welfare, and the chapter on jurisdiction, which includes relevant provisions from various uniform codes. Other significant changes to the casebook include introductory materials throughout, as well as a number of new cases and other materials on topics such as the right to marry, polygamy, common law marriage, constitutional sex equality, Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act, limits on parental autonomy, adoption, cohabitation, assisted reproductive technologies and the law, child support guidelines, international custody disputes, and alternative dispute resolution.
